Record Gain: BSE-Investors wealth surged by Rs 110.57 lakh crore

Investors in the Bombay stock market have experienced the highest capital appreciation ever seen, as the aggregate wealth of BSE firms surged by ₹110.57 lakh crore. This phenomenon has mostly been linked with the stock market attaining new highs, with the market capitalisation of BSE reaching a staggering ₹478.5 lakh crore 5.7 trillion dollars.

2024 appears to be an excellent year for retail investors, as midcap and small-cap stocks have excelled. The BSE midcap index improved by 12,645 points (34%), whereas the small-cap index improved by 14,777 points (34.6%). This has brought tremendous benefits to a lot of investors, especially those who have concentrated in these areas. Crude oil prices maintained a steady trend throughout the year, thereby improving the outlook of the Indian markets as any inflationary threats were mitigated and overall investor confidence improved.

The BSE benchmark index Sensex added 12,026 points to close at its all-time high of 85,978. This trend analyst says has been aided by high domestic liquidity and the fundamentals of the Indian economy. Earlier in 2023, the BSE benchmark jumped to 18.73% or 11,399.52 points. Hence, the D-Street investors added Rs 81.90 lakh crore to their wealth in 2023.
